Gulf Coast Cancer Treatment Center Cancer Research
GCCTC is also part of an exclusive group of facilities in North America approved to enroll patients on Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) protocols. Currently the practice has 15 protocols available for patient enrollment for cancers of the brain, head and neck, breast, lung, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary systems. This enhances GCCTC’s commitment to the highest degree of patient care.
The delivery of high quality radiation therapy and patient care is the number one priority of the medical director and staff at Gulf Coast Cancer Treatment Center. Part of our commitment to delivering high quality care, however, also involves participation in our own internal outcome studies as well as participation in National Cancer Institute (NCI) sponsored clinical cancer trials.
Our efforts to enroll patients on national clinical studies is important because the results from these studies ultimately lead to increased understanding about cancer and improved cure rates in the years to come. Participation in NCI sponsored protocols, however, is immediately beneficial to our patients because such participation provides access to information that is otherwise not available to physicians who do not participate in the research process.
Our work through the (RTOG) brings us in regular contact with nationally recognized experts at major academic cancer centers. As participants in clinical trials, we are frequently offered access to unpublished data. Because we are members of RTOG, we have access to protocols made available through other groups such as the National Surgical Adjuvant Project for Breast and Bowel Cancer (NSABP) and the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG). Working with these groups, we hope to further enhance the treatment options available to our patients.
